A Night at The Plaza Hotel

Walking into The Plaza Hotel is an incredible experience, the history and elegance as soon as you step foot in the lobby. This luxurious hotel is situated right by Central Park and Fifth Avenue, making it perfect for a morning stroll through nature, an afternoon full of shopping, and a night of royalty. I had the opportunity to spend a night in the Terrace Room, and I can confidently say it was an amazing experience that made me feel like a queen.

The Arrival

As I walked up to the grand entrance of The Plaza, I was greeted by the doormen with warm smiles. "May I help you with your bag ma'am?" one of the doormen asked me as I glanced at my one carry-on bag that I snuck onto my Spirit airline flight. The check-in process was so smooth, with the friendly staff informing me I'd be staying at one of their coveted Terrace Rooms. I could not wait to sprawl on the plush, king-sized bed and order up room service to enjoy while I watched sunset on my terrace.

A First Glance at the Terrace Room

When I entered my room, I was greeted by sophistication and elegance. The decor combined classic and graceful styles. In the bathroom, which is double the size of my apartment bathroom, sits a clawfoot tub, glass shower, a private toilet room, and an ornate sink all standing on beautiful tile. Complimentary bath salts and shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion sat above the tub just waiting to be used!

The soft, white comforter laid out on the large bed without a single wrinkle. The chandelier sparkling over the bed and cushion-y chair. The large antique-looking mirror sits across from the french doors that open up to my own little terrace. I did a little spin in the middle of the room, soaking in the luxurious ambiance.

The highlight of the entire room was obviously the terrace that my suite opened up to. It was like my own sanctuary nestled smack dab in the middle of New York City. Even though I was in the heart of the city that never sleeps, I still felt tucked away in my own little paradise.

I suddenly heard a knock and was greeted by a hotel employee as I opeoned the door. She handed me a gift bag, which I found out had been ordered by my mom. An Eloise book. The book that inspired this entire stay. Growing up, I was obsessed with Eloise. I wanted to traipse around a luxury hotel and act as if I was in charge and there were no rules. The employee had written a message inside the front cover of the book that I will keep forever, a message to commemorate one of the most incredible nights of my life!

Exploration

Once I settled in, I set out to explore the hotel and the surrounding area. Wandering through The Plaza felt like wandering through a palace. The opulent lobby, with its shining chandeliers that hung over stunning flower arrangements and intricate details, made me feel almost like I had stepped back in time.

I quickly stepped over to the concierge to schedule a car to take me to the airport the next morning.

The doorman, once again, opened the door so I would not even have to lift a finger to make my way outside. I took advantage of the location and did a little bit of window shopping on Fifth Avenue. I wonder to myself, "is this what it's like to be wealthy? Stay at a five-star hotel that's in so many different movies and shows and then go for a shopping spree that the most luxurious stores known to man?"

Dinner Plans

I could not stay at a luxury hotel without ordering room service. I ordered everything my heart desired and slipped into the fluffy robe embroidered with "The Plaza, New York" and the hotel's emblem above. An employee brought up my dinner: salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus, a glass of white whine, a slice of chocolate crepe cake, and an ice cream sundae. I had to order two desserts because I couldn't just choose one! The flavors danced on my palate, making each bite a delight. After dinner, I realized I hadn’t spent enough time on my terrace. I returned as the city lights began to twinkle and the sun began to set. I soaked up every bit of the joyful moment and reflecting on the incredible day I had, thankful for my parents for making it possible.

A Dreamlike Sleep

Before settling into the plush bed, I soaked my feet in the giant clawfoot tub with some bath salts, then hopped into my pjs and put on The Plaza embroidered slippers. I Facetimed my friends to share the jaw-dropping room I was staying in. I felt pure contentment wash over me as I hopped into bed. The bed was almost like magic– I tried to drift off to sleep quickly, but the excitement kept me awake for just a little bit longer. I was overtaken by the comfort of the pillows and comforter and finally fell asleep. It's no exaggeration to say I experienced one of the best nights of sleep I've had in ages.

Waking Up in Luxury

Waking up in the Terrace Room was nothing short of magnificent. I laid sprawled out across the bed as I stared at the chandelier above me. Quickly realizing the sun had not risen, I ordered breakfast to be sent up to my room and began to get ready for the day. As my basket of authentic croissants and scones arrived with a cup of hot tea, I quickly stepped out to enjoy my delicious meal on the terrace while watching the sun rise over the city. I relaxed on the outdoor lounge chair as the sky faded from black to red, orange, and yellow to blue. Finishing my last bite of a scone, I quickly realized I had a couple more scones and croissants leftover. Those kinds of delicacies would never be left behind, so I packed them in my carry-on luggage. I gathered my belongings and reluctantly said goodbye to my wonderful room, which I may only see again in my dreams.

Reflecting on the Experience

As I checked out, I couldn’t help but reflect on my experience. A stay at The Plaza is not just about luxury; it embodies a broader experience—its rich history, excellent service, and thoughtful details create an unforgettable stay. Although my night felt like a minute long, the memories from my visit will last for years.

If you’re planning a visit to New York City, I wholeheartedly recommend treating yourself to a night in The Plaza Hotel's Terrace Room. Trust me, it’s a luxurious stay you won’t forget. From the moment you walk through those majestic doors to the instant you leave, you will feel the magic of this iconic hotel surround you.

A night at The Plaza is the perfect chance to live out your fantasy of living like royalty, even if just for one glorious evening. You are not just staying at a hotel; you are indulging in a slice of history and luxury that will linger long after you depart.
